    Abstract
The article analyzes the methodology of shaping students' research skills through the teaching of specialized subjects to students of engineering education in higher education institutions and states that it is possible to note some features of the problem-research method of teaching by considering the commonality between research, heuristic and problem-based teaching methods. Also, in our work, the level of research abilities formed and developed by engineering students in teaching specialized subjects and performing computational works and course projects is determined.
