    Abstract
Introduction. Water scarcity is currently one of the fastest-growing global issues. During the water crisis caused by climate change, desalination of saline seawater or groundwater using available water resources is considered the most appropriate solution. This article evaluates the current state of desalination technologies used in arid climate regions through a detailed analysis. Technologies that are energy-efficient, economically viable, and capable of producing sufficient amounts of clean water have been identified. The potential of these technologies to meet the daily water consumption needs of populations living in remote areas of our country has been analyzed using the example of the Kashkadarya region. Methods and materials. The article provides an analytical study of the current state of water resources, water consumption and water treatment, and also provides a general conclusion based on the results obtained. Results. The analytical study found that water resources are increasingly depleted. The energy efficiency of desalination technologies and the volumes of clean water production were determined. Conclusion. It is advisable to conduct scientific research on water desalination technologies to satisfy the water consumption of the population living in arid climatic regions of the Kashkadarya region, remote from the centralized water supply system.
