MODERN METHODS AND TECHNOLOGIES FOR NATURAL GAS PURIFICATION FROM ACIDIC COMPONENTS
Abstract
A significant portion of the gas produced today (natural and associated)
contains acidic components – hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. Hydrogen
sulfide is a toxic substance, and its maximum content in gas supplied to main
pipelines is regulated by standards. Hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide in the
presence of water form acids that cause chemical and electrochemical corrosion of
metals. Under certain conditions, hydrogen sulfide causes sulfide cracking of
metals. The presence of a significant amount of carbon dioxide in the gas reduces
the heat of its combustion, which is also regulated.
