The problem of the stress-strain state (SSS) of a dam is assessed, the seismic resistance is determined, and an analysis of the behavior of the “dam-foundation” system under basic loads is performed. The problem was solved in a plane elastic statement using a numerical finite element method (FEM). The results are presented as graphs of the distribution of horizontal displacements and stresses in the dam under basic loads (gravity and hydrostatic forces) and seismic impacts. The effect of the dimensions of the calculation area (depth) of the foundation on the dam SSS under its weight and hydrostatic pressure acting on the upstream slope was revealed. It was determined that for the dam under study, consideration of the physical and mechanical characteristics of the foundation soil leads to an increase in the strain on the dam foundation and a change in the magnitude of horizontal stresses in the dam body, which is especially manifested on its upstream slope, subject to hydrostatic pressure.en_US
